Marines: October 24, 2000

Archives

Rather than replace its aging fleet of 8-wheeled LAV armored cars, the Marines have decided to spend $200 million upgrading them. The upgrades will include a new and improved thermal sight, kits to reduce thermal and visual signatures, an upgrade to the electrical system, and a series of enhancements to reduce the amount of maintenance needed on the power pack. The upgrades will be fielded in FY03-04 (although the improved sights won't reach the fleet until FY04-06).--Stephen V Cole
