The Australian Army wants to buy new 105mm ammunition for its Leopard-1(AS) tanks. Australia has 90 of these tanks. The new armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot ammunition is intended to provide improved performance without making other changes to the tanks. It is expected that the ammunition will enter service with the 1st Australian Armored Regiment in early 2003.--Stephen V Cole
