: The Euromissile TRIGAT Medium Range anti-tank missile program appears headed for rough times and possible cancellation. The British pulled out when the weapon was too heavy and did not meet performance expectations. As the British were expected to buy 45% of Trigat-MR production, this was a serious blow. The Dutch, who never signed the agreement but were expected to buy it anyway, have now rejected Trigat-MR (again, noting it is too heavy for light forces) and plan to buy either the US Javelin or the Israeli Gill Spike missile. France, Germany, and Belgium are holding urgent meetings, and all claim that the missile is an excellent product that deserves to be produced. But the French Army already has Milan-3 in service and regards Trigat-MR as not really needed. The Germans have a ready-made fallback position: STN Atlas has a deal to produce Israeli Spike missiles and sell them to Finland. --Stephen V Cole
