June 2, 2009: The U.S. Army is buying another 274 M1000 HETs (Heavy Equipment Trailers), at a cost of $380,000 each. These trailers weigh 25 tons and can carry up to 80 tons. These 52 foot long trailers can also carry lots of cargo, which they often do when not hauling M-1 tanks or other armored vehicles. The 20 ton M1070 tractor that usually pulls this trailer has a six man cab, so the tank crew can be carried as well. This latest order will give the army some 1,500 M1000 trailers.
