Pilot shortages in air forces are becoming so acute that short handed air forces are trying to recruit pilots from other nations. Britain, facing a severe shortage, is recruiting pilots from New Zealand (where the armed forces are being downsized and turned into a peacekeeping only force) and Germany. German air force (Luftwaffe) pilots suffer low morale because of inadequate pay, not enough flying time and poorly maintained aircraft. German pilots fly the same type of aircraft as the Royal Air Force, and many already speak English. The German pilots are apparently tempted, although the German government has not yet commented on the situation.
