The Pentagon has decided to delay production of the F-22 Raptor fighter by one year in order to further develop the aircraft and establish the subcontractor base. This, in effect, delays the final battle over the future of the F-22 for a year. A significant portion of Congress wants the aircraft canceled.--Stephen V Cole

Turkey wants to develop its own Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and says it needs "a minimum of outside help" including 19 specific systems and technologies.--Stephen V Cole

Japan needs to replace its aging AH-1S Cobra anti-tank helicopters, and is reviewing bids from Boeing (AH-64), Bell (AH-1A), and Eurocopter (Tiger). It is also considering a plan to order additional OH-1 observation helicopters refitted with armor plate and anti-tank missiles.--Stephen V Cole

Managers of the RAH-66 Comanche helicopter program expect to meet all program goals by December that are required for a decision to begin Engineering & Manufacturing Development. That decision will officially be made in March 2000.--Stephen V Cole
