Surface Forces: American Defiants For Vietnam

Archives

June 10, 2015: The U.S. has agreed to give Vietnam $18 million for the purchase of Defiant 75 patrol boats. These are 23 meter (75 feet) long, 6.4 meter (21 feet) wide all-aluminum boats with a top speed of over 70 kilometers an hour. A water jet system makes these boat very maneuverable. These boats are highly configurable for military, police and firefighting. Price of the boats going to Vietnam was not given but it probably means at least a dozen boats, which would be armed with two machine-gun and search radar. The Defiant type boats are widely used and quite popular. Configured for military use a Defiant 75 can have accommodations for eight crew and stay at sea for several days at a time.
