  The US currently has 600 civil affairs troops working in Afghanistan. The US Army has 19 battalions of civil affairs troops, who have long worked closely with the Special Forces to develop better ways to work with locals in foreign nations. The US has some 7,000 civil affairs troops available, most of them reservists. Many civil affairs soldiers will be needed if Iraq is invaded.
