US Central Command has cancelled this year's Central Asian Battalion peacekeeping exercise. This series, begun in 1997, brings together a composite battalion of infantry companies from Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, and Uzbekistan under the NATO Partnership for Peace program. Central Command says it is simply too busy this year to manage the exercise.--Stephen V Cole
