The US Department of Defense said that China is increasing the rate of installing ballistic missiles aimed at Taiwan. The missiles are being put in coastal bases in the area opposite Taiwan. There are currently 600-650 DF-15 (600 kilometer range, 30 feet long 6.2 tons launch weight) and DF-11(300 kilometer range, 34 feet long 6.4 tons launch weight) missiles deployed this way, and 75 new missiles are being added to this arsenal each year. These missiles, using conventional (1,000 pound) warheads and GPS guidance, are thought to be a major weapon in any attack on Taiwan. Faced with a missile attack, Taiwan has been looking for an anti-missile system and is considering US Patriot missiles.
