An army battle with FARC 900 kilometers southwest of the capital left 17 rebels dead. A machine-gun belonging to the Ecuadorian army was recovered from the rebels.

Meanwhile, the third car bomb in three days went off, killing one person and wounding 17. The three bombs were apparently meant to attack soldiers and police, but most of the casualties have been civilians. FARC is suspected as behind the car bombings, as they have used them before.
