Warships, warplanes and infantry units entered China for military exercises, the first time this had ever been done. While the political purpose of this is to show the United States that Russia and China are united in their opposition to American "expansion" (obtaining close relationships with neighbors of Russia and China), the practical purpose is to show the Chinese much Russian military gear, and weapons. In other words, it's a sales demonstration.
